Washroom hygiene: enhancing guest experience beyond the table

0

Hygiene is an important factor in today’s competitive food industry. In the restaurant industry, the dining experience extends beyond what’s served on a plate—and if you think that the state of your washrooms escapes it, you’re wrong.

Consumers say it best

Recent findings from a survey1 spotlight the emphasis consumers place on washroom hygiene. A staggering 97% of respondents opined that the state of a restroom reflects a business’ attention to detail—and care1. If perceptions are sculpted in washrooms, there truly is no room for establishments to ignore the statement.

The impact of online reviews

Moreover, a diner’s experience reverberates far beyond their time spent in the restaurant. Online reviews have become an important part of a restaurant’s reputation. Platforms like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google Reviews give voice to each patron, magnifying their praise or amplifying their discontent. Given this influence, ensuring a consistently positive experience has never been more crucial. A subpar restroom experience, which may seem insignificant, can catalyze a negative review, impacting potential patronage. It’s in these details, like offering a clean and well-equipped washroom, that establishments can truly stand out.

The rise of paper towels

Another finding from the aforementioned survey is that 60% of respondents shared that their overall dining experience was enhanced when establishments opted for paper towels, especially from touchless dispensers1. What’s more, within this group, 61% of respondents cited using them as a barrier against germs on door handles post-wash as a reason behind their choice.2

Some noteworthy distinctions are quickly revealed if we dive deeper into the paper towel vs. air dryer debate. Not only does wiping hands with paper towels create friction, allowing for a more effective germ removal process, but it also serves as a direct counter to some prevalent misconceptions about air dryers. Contrary to popular belief, air dryers might inadvertently disperse germs throughout washrooms.3 Additionally, the noise from said dryers can sometimes disrupt the overall ambiance, as they can be loud. In contrast, a touchless dispenser offers a solution that isn’t simply hygienic, but also aligns with the modern consumer’s expectations1.

Where comfort meets design

Another growing trend is to invest in design-forward washrooms, as the visit there is also a (huge) part of the dining journey. As early as 2011, it was proven that providing a thoughtfully designed washroom with durable materials leads to better evaluations.3

In today’s age, where aesthetics reign supreme, a washroom’s design and overall vibe can elevate a diner’s experience and reflect an establishment’s commitment to detail. Cascades PRO® dispensers offer a sleek, award-winning design,4 making it more than just a dispenser but a true part of the restroom’s overall aesthetic; after all, why can’t functionality meet design?
