TORONTO — Fundraising foodies may get a chance to compete on stage with celebrity chefs at Toronto’s Congress Centre Feb. 8, at the annual Chef’s Challenge: The Ultimate Battle for a Cure, which supports care and research of women’s cancers at the city’s Mount Sinai Hospital.

Hosted by Giada De Laurentiis, star of Food Network’s Everyday Italian, the event will welcome the top 50 fundraisers, who have raised $2,500 or more, to create dishes on stage with help from a star-studded cast of team leaders, including Bal Arneson, host of The Food Network’s The Spice Goddess; David Rocco, host of Dolce India on TLN; Derek Dammann, co-owner of Montreal’s Maison Publique; Mark McEwan, Toronto-based restaurateur and Vikram Vij, owner of Vij’s Restaurant and Vij’s Rangoli in Vancouver. The dishes will be judged by Grant van Gameren, chef of Bar Isabel in Toronto and Maggie McKeown, former national spokesperson for Kraft Canada.

“Food brings people together, and when it brings people together for a good cause it is even more special,” said Laurentiis. “I am honoured to be part of Chef’s Challenge: The Ultimate Battle for a Cure, a culinary event that not only celebrates food but also celebrates life. Salute!”
