Chefs Prepare for Gold Medal Plates Halifax

HALIFAX — The annual Gold Medal Plates has officially kicked off in Winnipeg, with Luc Jean, chef at Jane’s taking home gold. Now, nine Nova Scotia chefs are sharpening their knives and practising their plating for the upcoming competition Oct. 16 in Halifax at the Cunard Centre.

Participating chefs include Ray Bear, Saege Bistro & Scanway Catering (Halifax); Craig Flinn, Chives Canadian Bistro (Halifax); Mark Gray, Brooklyn Warehouse (Halifax); Renée Lavallée, The Canteen (Dartmouth); Jason Lynch, Le Caveau Restaurant (Grand Pré); Dave Smart, Front & Central (Wolfville); Jamie Smye, Privet House Fine Dining Restaurant (Wolfville); Terry Vassallo, Café Chianti (Halifax); and Tracy Wallace, Cabot Links Resort (Inverness).

During the next two months, heats will be held in Edmonton, Victoria, Saskatoon, Montreal, Toronto, St. John’s, N.L., Ottawa and Regina. Winners from each city will compete in the final Gold Medal Plates competition, which will be held in Kelowna, B.C. in February.
