TORONTO — Egg Farmers of Canada and Food Banks Canada launched their annual #RecipesThatGive holiday campaign today to support those in need and help alleviate hunger in communities across the country. The two organizations have teamed up to challenge Canadians to share a meal with someone they love and donate to their local food bank.

“Each month, more than 860,000 Canadians rely on food banks for help. The holiday season is a very busy time for food banks,” says Chris Hatch, CEO of Food Banks Canada. “We want to create a movement that raises awareness and drives support for the millions of Canadians who turn to food banks for help each year.”

This year, Egg Farmers of Canada and Food Banks Canada are collaborating with prominent Canadian chefs, including Lynn Crawford, Matt Basile, Trevor Bird, Craig Flinn and a host of emerging chefs across the country. The culinary movement encourages Canadians to pay it forward by sharing a holiday meal with someone they love, sharing it on social media and tagging a friend to do the same.

“For more than two decades, Egg Farmers of Canada has donated more than 1.4-million eggs to its local food banks every year,” says Roger Pelissero, chairman of Egg Farmers of Canada. “We’re a committed partner in Food Banks Canada’s mission to feed the country and we want Canadians to have access to nutritious and wholesome meals, including fresh, local, high-quality eggs.”
