TORONTO — Chef Grant Van Gameren of Bar Raval and Bar Isabel plans to expand his empire with the opening of a cocktail bar in Toronto’s Parkdale neighborhood.
In an interview with Zane Caplansky, on the Newstalk 1010 show, Let’s Eat, Gameren confirmed he will team up with his Bar Raval partners, as well as Evelyn Chick, bar manager of Harbord Room, to open Pretty Ugly. “There’s going to be a few small dishes prepared by the bartenders. There’s no kitchen there. I’ve done so many restaurants and been a part of so many restaurants that it’s really nice to do a cocktail bar that’s not serious about the food.”
Pretty Ugly will occupy the former home of Salvador Darling on Queen West. [nowtoronto.com]
