Jon Bon Jovi Opens Restaurant

NEW JERSEY — Built under the banner of his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea, have opened Soul Kitchen, a New Jersey eatery.

The community kitchen menu includes nutritious, comfort food that can be paid for with cash or volunteer hours.

“At a time when one in five households is living at or below the poverty level, and at a time when one out of six Americans are food insecure, this is a restaurant whose time has come. This is a place based on and built on community, by and for the community,” said the rockin’ restaurateur, who named his personal cook, Zeet Peabody, head chef of the restaurant.

“We want to execute at a high standard without intimidating anyone. There’s no foam, there’s no blah-blah; its down-home cooking. The top seller is a rainbow beet salad. We’sre using honey from Jon’s property. It’s not the reinvention of gastronomy,” Peabody told The Wall Street Journal.

Soul Kitchen serves a three-course meal with a choice of salad or soup, followed by fish, meat or vegetarian and dessert. A typical night’s fare includes Garden State gumbo with chicken, pork sausage and Jersey fresh kale followed by a fresh-baked dessert.

Soul Kitchen has limited hours. It’s open Thursday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.
