TORONTO — McDonald’s Canada is now serving breakfast bagels in locations across Canada following a successful four-month pilot program in Ontario.

McDonald’s plans to sell bagels in a variety of flavours: original, everything, multigrain and cinnamon and raisin. In Quebec, where consumers favour sesame bagels, the company will swap out the everything variety. Customers can choose between two types of cream cheese or butter on the bagels, and can substitute a bagel for the bread portion of breakfast sandwiches.

“McCafe bagels have been an exciting addition to our menu,” says Nicola Pitman, director, Menu Innovation at McDonald’s Canada. “We’re proud of how the new McCafé bagels have caught on throughout Ontario, and we’re looking forward to sharing the love with the rest of the country.”

Breakfast has been the fastest-growing daypart for restaurants since 2012, according to research companies The NPD Group and Nielsen, and breakfast sandwiches comprise a third of all orders placed during that time of day.
