TORONTO — The S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition — a global culinary competition that facilitates access to the gastronomy community — is back for the fourth year.

Applications for the first stage of the competition are now open; each of the 12 regions will search for the top 10 to 15 young chefs. The 10 successful applicants from North America will be announced on June 7, 2019 and compete in New York City in late 2019 at the North American Regional Semi-Finals. The North-American winners will go on to compete against the winners from the other 11 regions at the Grand Finale in Milan, Italy in 2020.

The winners of S.Pellegrino Young Chef’s awards are provided the opportunity to gain global visibility and a significant professional prestige and are invited to take part in several of S.Pellegrino’s high-profile annual events around the world, including events related to future Young-Chef competitions.

“This landmark fourth edition of S.Pellegrino Young Chef represents the genuine commitment of S.Pellegrino to continue developing an initiative that truly nurtures the future of gastronomy,” says Stefano Marini, director of Sanpellegrino International Business Unit. “We are committed to supporting the international gastronomy community by nesting, discovering and promoting the next generation of culinary talent. We want to enable these chefs to demonstrate their personal beliefs and leverage the transformative power of gastronomy.”

For the first time, there will be three awards in addition to the title of “S.Pellegrino Young Chef.”

Fine-Dining Lovers Food for Thoughts Award: Voted for by the online Fine Dining Lovers community – awarded to the young chef who best represents his/her personal belief within his/her dish.

S.Pellegrino Award for Social Responsibility: Voted for by an internationally recognized voice on sustainability in food, this dish will represent the principle that food is best when it’s the result of socially responsible practises.

Acqua Panna Award for Connection in Gastronomy: Voted for by mentors who represent 50 countries around the world, the winning dish will be the one that reflects a connection between different cultures on one plate, celebrating a global approach to gastronomy.
