TORONTO — Toronto City Council has confirmed the Single-Use and Takeaway Items bylaw is scheduled to come into effect on Mar. 1, 2024. The bylaw requires the acceptance of re-usable bags and beverage cups and distributing items in an “ask-first/by-request” manner.

The city is working on educational resources to circulate and post on Ontario Restaurant Hotel Motel Association’s (ORHMA) website to ensure hospitality businesses have the tools available to understand their obligations under the bylaw. The city is also hosting a webinar on Feb. 22, 2024 to provide education to businesses.
