JALANDHAR , India — Subway is preparing to open its first vegetarian-only restaurant at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar, India.
“At Subway we take pride in being able to adapt our menu to honour local religious and cultural food preferences. Although our core menu is predominately the same all over, our menu in India includes many items that were specifically selected to appeal to the India taste palate,” said Les Winograd, public relations specialist for Subway.
“As there are many vegetarian consumers in India, our menu there includes more vegetarian options than anywhere in the world.”
Subway has 286 outlets in India, which do not sell beef or pork and have many vegetarian options, including chickpeas, aloo patty, veggi shammi and paneer-based sandwiches and salads.
According to The Times of India, the vegetarian-only outlet in Jalandhar will open Sept. 4; Subway is expecting to open similar outlets in Mumbai and at a hospital in Delhi.
