Tim Hortons Modernizes Roll-up-the-Rim Contest

TORONTO — Tim Hortons has changed the way Canadians can play Roll up the Rim to Win by offering a combination of paper, digital and sustainable play options.

Tim Hortons’ customers can now play one of three ways. For the first two weeks of the contest, customers can physically roll up the cup rim. The two new ways for customers to play revolve around sustainable practices and the Tim Hortons app.

When ordering a hot beverage, registered Tims Rewards members who scan their card or app will receive a digital roll in the Tim Hortons app or online. For the first two weeks of the contest, guests will receive two rolls when ordering a hot beverage when they scan their Tims Rewards card — one on the cup and one on the app.

The final way to play is by purchasing a hot beverage in a reusable cup to receive three digitals rolls.

Tim Hortons has also elected to remove the “Please Play Again” option from the contest.

“We listened to the feedback from our guests who wanted us to modernize the program. We’re excited to share the news that we’re updating Roll up the Rim to Win in 2020 to reflect the future of the Tim Hortons brand, while still embracing the best of our heritage,” says Hope Bagozzi, CMO, Tim Hortons. “We’ve also given everyone extra chances to win by replacing please play again with weekly $100,000 draws for guests who don’t reveal a winning digital roll.”

Tim Hortons will kick off Roll up the Rim 2020 by giving away 1.8 million reusable hot-beverage cups March 10. The contest begins March 11 and runs until April 7.
