VANCOUVER — SmartSweets, a Vancouver-based start-up founded by Tara Bosch, is giving candy lovers a chance to enjoy sweets while still kicking sugar. The company launched its national online candy shop yesterday, while locally, its products became available on B.C. retailers’ shelves.
“It’s about kicking sugar but keeping candy and creating a movement based on smarter choices. I believe we should be able to enjoy our favourite foods while feeling good and treating our bodies right,” says Bosch.
The negative impact of sugar on health is no longer up for debate as the Heart & Stroke Foundation regularly reminds consumers that excess sugar consumption is strongly associated with stroke, cancer and heart disease, and recently, The World Health Organization recommended reducing daily sugar intake to just five per cent.
