VANCOUVER — Local food businesses and farmers are set to participate in Meet Your Maker, a “speed-dating” style event to be held at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver on Feb. 27.

The event is designed to promote business growth and new partnerships in metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley area. “Meet Your Maker provides a great opportunity for small businesses to connect with suppliers, gain access to niche products and scale up their businesses by going local,” said Tara McDonald, executive director of the Vancouver Farmers Markets and Local Food First committee lead.

The event will include keynote speakers Ned Bell, executive chef of Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver and local farmer Jerry Gelderman from the Abbotsford, B.C.-based Gelderman Farms, producer of sustainably raised pork products.

Last year’s event generated more than $268,000 in business, and organizers hope to push that number up higher this year with the new speed-dating meet-and-greet format.
