AMMAN, Jordan – A recent New York Times story highlights one man’s quest to take American desserts overseas. In Jordan, everyone from local residents to members of the royal family drop by Fadi Jaber’s bakery, Sugar Daddy’s, to taste authentic American cupcakes. Jaber, a son of Palestinian refugees, opened Sugar Daddy’s in July 2007 after studying baking at the Institute of Culinary Management in Manhattan and interning at Billy’s Bakery in Chelsea. His colourful frosted cupcakes were an instant hit at the Amman location,and Jaber has since opened two more Sugar Daddy’s in Dubai and Beirut.
