GUELPH, Ont. — The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, is preparing to host entrepreneur and restaurateur Peter Oliver, as the school’s executive-in-residence.
During the residency, on Feb. 7 and 8, Oliver — who co-founded the Oliver and Bonacini restaurant group with Michael Bonacini — will share real-life experiences with students, including anecdotes that he admits, helped him survive almost every mistake in the book.
The industry veteran will present three classes during his stay: “Hospitality and Tourism Marketing”, “Lodging Operations” and “Policy Issues in Hospitality and Tourism Management.” In addition to guest lecturing, Oliver will attend a lunch with the Hospitality and Tourism Management Student Association and the Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals; he will also be the guest of honour at an appreciation dinner Feb. 7.
Oliver is the founder and chief fundraiser of The Stephen Leacock Foundation, a successful children’s charity, which has raised $6.5 million for children’s causes. He is also a Governor of the Royal Ontario Museum and was the National Chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation’s Ride for a Cure.
The University of Guelph regularly invites industry leaders and prominent executives to speak and meet with students, assisting in their academic and career growth.
