Student Chef Rehan Sandesh Rodrigo Wins Turkey Cook-Off at George Brown College

TORONTO — Student chef Rehan Sandesh Rodrigo is the winner of the turkey cooking competition that took place on April 14 at George Brown College.

Six finalists competed for a $2,500 cash prize courtesy of sponsor Think Turkey and a menu feature at The Chef’s House, the on-campus and student-run restaurant. The finalists went before a panel of judges that included celebrity chef Christine Cushing, an alumnus of George Brown College.

Rodrigo’s winning recipe was Jaffna Turkey Curry with turmeric rice, eggplant moju and kale sambol, featuring turkey breast. Other finalists’ recipes included Taiwanese Braised Turkey with rice, Salpicão, Turkey Karaage (Gurume style), Mughlai Turkey Paratha with mix raita, butter ketchup and mint chutney, and a Turkey Embutido Sandwich with cranberry jalapeno cream cheese on garlic focaccia bread.
