New Toronto Restaurant Thriving Despite COVID-19 Pandemic

TORONTO — The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced many restaurants to shut their doors permanently, however, Enigma, a modern European fine-dining restaurant, actually opened its doors in September 2020 and has been thriving ever since.

Enigma is located in Yorkville on St. Thomas St. and offers tasting menus that rotate seasonally. Head chef, Quinton Bennett and pastry chef, Calvin Wat, are the culinary leaders at Enigma, making their mark on the Toronto restaurant scene.

With indoor dining closed during the pandemic, Bennett and Wat prioritized takeout and delivery tasting-menu services to attract new customers. Some popular menu items include the asparagus tartlet, the butter-poached Nova Scotia lobster and miso and Saki-glazed sablefish. They also turned their restaurant into a boulangerie so customers could purchase pastries, snacks, wine and beer.

Enigma offers limited reservations for a patio dinner menu, consisting of a five-course summer tasting. Indoor diners, however, can get 10 courses for roughly $220.
